APRIL 2022: NORTHLANDS RESCUE MISSION'S BACKPACK PROGRAM

Northlands Rescue Mission Backpack Program logo
‍Northlands Rescue Mission is committed to ending hunger in our community. That's why we started the Backpack Program, which provides local children with food every week during the school year. NEW this year: we are expanding the program to cover all elementary and middle schools in Grand Forks, so that no student goes without the opportunity for food assistance in our community. This means that as many as 2,200 children will receive a bag of food through their school that they can take home over the weekend!

Backpack Program food bags are filled with two breakfast items, two lunch items, two fruit items, two snacks, and two juice pouches. At the end of each week during the school year, bags are discreetly given to students to take home. This helps ensure that kids have a healthy and reliable source of food over the weekend. It also helps parents save money so they can pay bills and purchase items their children need, such as school supplies and medication.

ITEMS OF NEED
  • Non-perishable food items including ramen noodles, mac & cheese cups/boxes, juice pouches/boxes, instant oatmeal packets, applesauce/fruit cups, and fruit snacks
  • Or make a gift online at http://www.northlandsrescuemission.org/backpackprogram - just $100 feeds a child for an entire school year through the program!

JANUARY 2022: MONIQUE AND JOCELYNE LAMOUREUX FOUNDATION

Lamoureux Foundation, Greater Grand Forks Women's Leadership Cooperative
The Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux Foundation was created to support kids in need through funding of educational and extracurricular programs and other causes that align with the core values of the Lamoureux Twins, primarily in North Dakota.

Grants have been made to extend eligibility for full participation in the National School Lunch Program to all kids in Grand Forks, without the need for financial contributions from their families, and to help provide food to families who have been devastated by the impact of the pandemic.

"Growing up, our parents taught us to work to level the playing field – to  cheer for the one behind. Those lessons went beyond sports, and became the core of a set of values we carry with us today," said the Lamoureux twins. "Our new foundation will be making grants locally to level the playing field for kids from disadvantaged communities, mostly in the education space. We're going to advocate for these kids - we're going to cheer for them - because they are being left behind. And we're confident that this work will make a difference in our North Dakota community."

Items can be brought to the January event and will be distributed to those in need.

OCTOBER 2021: SHAREHOUSE

ShareHouse Recovery is Possible Greater Grand Forks Women's Leadership Cooperative
ShareHouse's mission is to provide personalized recovery services for individuals, families and the community.

ShareHouse was founded in 1975 as the first public half-way house in North Dakota, providing services to those suffering from alcoholism. It originally opened with 6 beds and, in 1989, expanded to 36 beds. Today we have 87 total beds available for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, including 60 high intensity and 27 Recovery Living beds.

In 2009, the ShareHouse Outpatient Center was opened to provide both SUD and Mental Health clinics for patients in need. That same year, the ShareHouse Foundation was developed for the management of the fiscal and developmental portion of ShareHouse. Although the two entities share a common mission, they are two separately identified nonprofits, each with their own individual 501(c)3 status.

Last year we opened the ShareHouse Walk-In Clinic, where individuals can receive walk-in chemical use assessments. In January 2022, we plan to open an additional 16 bed residential facility in Grand Forks, ND, which will provide assessment, residential, and telehealth services.

Like our mission states, we believe the recovery process looks different for each individual. In addition to being an evidence-based program using the 12 Steps, we are committed to providing the most comprehensive individualized care possible. We have a Treatment University consisting of nearly 100 hours of group options. Our team approach promotes accountability and personal responsibility to all clients within a highly structured program. ShareHouse’s treatment approach is based upon a dual-diagnosis approach to treating Mental Health and Addiction at the same time. We believe, recovery is possible!

MAY 2021: PANCRATZ PROFESSIONAL CLOSET

Pancratz Career Development Center
PANCRATZ CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Pancratz Career Development Center empowers Nistler College of Business and Public Administration students to discover and leverage their strengths to help them define and achieve their professional goals and become engaged members of their communities by providing personalized, progressive professional development and cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships with employers and alumni.

PANCRATZ PROFESSIONAL CLOSET
The Pancratz Professional Closet was opened in the fall of 2018. Our goal is to provide access to new or gently used professional items at no cost to Nistler College of Business and Public Administration students. Affording and accessing professional clothing can be a challenge for students, and this can have a direct impact on their levels of confidence when attending career fairs, going to interviews, or meeting employers and alumni at campus events. Helping NCoBPA students feel prepared inside and out is an essential part of our overall mission of empowering students to reach their professional goals.

Each semester, NCoBPA students can take and keep two professional items and an accessory. We want these items to help students begin to build their professional wardrobes, so we encourage them to visit every semester as we receive new inventory. We also have hosted events where students can take additional items as part of the event.

ITEMS OF NEED
We are happy to accept new and gently used items that students can use for interviews, networking events, and career fairs as well as to begin their internships and jobs.
  • Men’s and women’s suits, blazers, dress pants, button-down shirts and blouses, skirts, professional dresses, ties, and shoes
  • Business casual items are welcome, including sweaters, shirts, and pants
  • Most frequent needs: Suits, blazers, and button-down shirts are consistently what students are looking for, so those are our most-needed items.

DRIVE UP DONATION DROP OFFS
We ask that items be washed or professionally cleaned prior to donation. Please consider donating items that are within 5 years old.
  • May 17, 4:00 - 6:00pm
  • May 20, 4:00 - 6:00pm

Drive-Up Directions (Map Below)
The drop-off site will be in the parking lot behind Gamble Hall. Because of the various construction projects in the area, Pancratz Center Staff recommend that people approach Gamble Hall by taking 42nd Street to University Avenue, and then going south on Centennial Drive as shown on the attached map. There is parking enforcement in the lot until 4:00 pm each day and cars could be ticketed if they are parked, so we recommend that people pull up to the drop off area where Pancratz Center Staff will be stationed. Staff will approach the cars to accept the clothing donations.

Pancratz Center Staff will be dressed in green shirts. They will follow COVID precautions including wearing masks. They’ll have an area designated for people to walk up and drop off their donations if they’d rather not be in close contact.

NOVEMBER 2020: JOURNEY HOME ANIMAL RESCUE

Picture
Journey Home Animal Rescue, based in Grand Forks, ND, is 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2018. A group of dedicated animal advocates recognized the need for a foster based rescue in the area.

Since there are so many animals in need, we also work with other rescues to get animals to safety. North Dakota is overflowing with animals that desperately need our help. We transport 100s of animals a year to partnering rescues in MN, ND, & WI.
